This summer, Olympic competition doesn’t begin and end in Beijing.
The inaugural Pinchot Olympic Triathlon will take place Sept. 14 at Gifford Pinchot State Park in northern York County. As its name suggests, this event follows Olympic distances: a 1-mile swim, a 27-mile bike ride, and a 10K run (6.2 miles).
It is open to nine age groups, from 19 and under to 55 and older. Participants can compete individually or form teams. The cost for individuals is $55 through Sept. 1 or $85 from Sept. 2 to 10; team registration is $95 through Sept. 10.
Awards will be given to the top three men and women in each age group and to the overall top male and female finishers. In addition to the triathlon, a raffle drawing will be held for more than 20 prizes including a Fuji Aloha CF2 bike valued at $3,230. Tickets are $25 each or five for $100.

The Pinchot Olympic Triathlon is the final leg of a three-race series that began with the 4th Annual Pinchot Sprint Triathlon on June 8 and continued with the 5th Annual Catfish Triathlon on July 20.
All of the proceeds generated by the three triathlons and the raffle are being donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Phillips Group, central Pennsylvania’s leading independent office products company, is a key sponsor of the triathlon series.
